Gluten-Free Shopping Spree – Some of my favorite products
When I was first diagnosed with celiac disease my whole world flipped upside down. Suddenly, my favorite restaurants and last-minute delivery orders were off-limits. But fear not, fellow food enthusiasts! This just means I get to explore the wonderful world of gluten-free cooking and share my journey with you.
Luckily, Israel has a TON of delicious gluten-free options, but some of my American favorites are not available here. Enter my new best friend: iHerb! They deliver to Israel within a few weeks, so I stocked up on some gluten-free goodies to use in my culinary adventures.
Simple Mills:
- Almond flour crackers: I get the sea salt or cheddar flavors, but also have tried and loved the rosemary one. These are my go-to for snacking! I love them with green apples or grapes. They also make perfect additions to veggie bento boxes (recipe coming soon!) or gluten free cheese boards!
- Almond Brownie Batter: These are dangerously good. They’re perfect for those days when you crave brownies but don’t feel like baking from scratch (which, by the way, I have an AMAZING allergen-free recipe for!).
- Everything but the bagel Crackers: These are my new cheese board and bento box BFFs.
- Brownie Thins: Some folks love them, others not so much. I personally adore them, especially for a sweet afternoon pick-me-up!
Bob Red Mills:
- Nutritional Yeast: This adds a cheesy, umami flavor to EVERYTHING. Seriously, I put it in salads, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs… you name it!
- Quinoa: Finding certified gluten free quinoa in Israel has been a challenge. If any of you have seen it, please send a hungry foodie a DM!
- Oatmeal: I love Red Mills and this oatmeal is perfect for mornings. Plus, it’s certified gluten-free, which is a win in my book.
- 1-to-1 Flour: This is a game-changer! It allows me to easily replace wheat flour in many recipes, but it’s a bit pricey, so I save it for special occasions.
- Popcorn: I didn’t know that even popcorn should be certified GF. I see a lot of packages that says “it may contain gluten” and because I don’t want to risk it, I buy it through IHerb
Pastas:
I’m still on the hunt for the perfect gluten free pasta! I have a few contenders to try: Chickapea, Banza, Jovial mac and cheese (the only one I found that’s both gluten-free and kosher!), and cauliflower and quinoa elbows from NOW. Stay tuned for taste-test updates!
Protein Powder:
Quest Protein Powders: These come in many flavors, but my favorites are chocolate, peanut butter, and vanilla flavors. The chocolate one literally tastes like a milkshake, and the peanut butter one is a perfect addition to my morning oats. They’re also certified gluten-free and kosher, making them a win-win.
Savory Snacks:
- Plantain Chips: These are crispy, delicious, and perfect for snacking or topping scrambled eggs.
- Craize: Craving arepas? These pre-made shells are a lifesaver! I love them with fried halloumi cheese and smashed avocado.
- Flackers: this brand has seed crackers that are incredibly delicious! I love the Everything, Sea Salt , Rosemary, and the Pepper ones
Bonus:
I also grabbed some Partake cookies (both chewy and crunchy) and HighKey chocolate chip. The HighKey cookies are my favorite!
