Zavino is one of Drexel’s gems and let me tell you why. It is cheap, it is located right on the main quad, it has delicious drinks and amazing food. Done. That’s it.

Well, that is not actually it. Zavino has more to offer than just that. I mean, have you tried its ricotta? This appetizer is everyone’s favorite dish. It comes with rosemary flatbread that has olive oil, kosher salt and obviously rosemary. I have not gone to Zavino once without ordering this as the first plate.

My go-to is the gnocchi with alfredo sauce, but now and then I stick to its menu and order it with the tomato sauce. I have to say that Zavino’s alfredo sauce is one of the best I’ve had. It is very rich and creamy,  and it goes very well with the chunks of garlic and shredded parmesan on top of it. It actually makes the perfect meal if you are on the go and want to take something with you to your class.

The spaghetti squash is another item that you must not miss when visiting this restaurant. It comes with a light tomato sauce, carrots, zucchini, pine nuts and provolone to top everything.  I am a huge fan of spaghetti squash and can testify that this one is to die for. I love how the zucchini and carrots complement the texture of the squash, and how crunchy the pine nuts are. Obviously, my favorite part is the provolone on top, but this shouldn’t be a surprise for anyone.

The pizzas at Zavino are also amazing. They are made on a wood oven, and the dough is not heavy at all. You can eat an entire pie without feeling disgusting, and the variety of toppings will allow ANYONE eat it. I usually go for a Margherita pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil, but its butternut squash pizza, the Diavolo and rosa pizza are three of its menu items you can’t miss.
